Power facilities targeted in the region
The country's power facilities have faced escalating strikes in the past few days

Overnight, Moscow's missile and drone strikes have resulted in blackouts in extensive areas of Ukraine's capital, Kyiv.

A number of civilians were injured while residents in eastern districts were experienced blackouts and dealt with problems to water systems, per reports from municipal leaders.

At the same time, a minor was fatally injured in a distinct assault in the southeastern region in the country's south-east, according to local officials.

Moscow has increased assaults on electrical systems over the last fortnight, while officials has called for "substantial measures" from allies to apply pressure on Moscow.

"The necessity is not symbolic gestures but decisive action - from the America, the EU and the major economies - in delivering defensive weapons and applying penalties," he wrote in a public message.

Officials stated that 450 drones and several dozen projectiles struck energy facilities, describing such attacks as "premeditated" and against "essential services" as temperatures become colder.

Energy officials said Russia was "inflicting a massive strike" and technical staff were laboring to restore power.

A barrage of missiles hit electrical systems and civilian homes in Kyiv.

Five out of the nine people injured in the assaults on the capital have been taken to hospital, per statements from municipal representatives.

Regional authorities said the metropolitan region endured intense attacks during nighttime hours. A seven-year-old child was killed and three other people were injured.

The attacks come after evenings of bombing campaigns in the region, portions of which are occupied by Moscow's military.

All of Ukraine is in a state of readiness for hypersonic Kinzhal missile strikes, which are more difficult to identify.

Government officials told the media that Russia was purposely seeking to demolish the electrical infrastructure, with strikes already disrupting gas facilities.

Authorities confirmed technical personnel and officials were bracing for more assaults.
